We start our journey at the beginning of Zvolenská cesta Road behind the Hyundai Store, where an information board about the “FAMILY TRAIL” – the name of this route between Banská Bystrica and Zvolen cities – is located. We continue behind the industrial area on Zvolenská cesta Road and along the bank of the Hron River following the blue cycling route no. 2565 to Iliaš, part of the Banská Bystrica, where we cross the pontoon bridge to get to the other side of the river. Then we shortly continue along the asphalt road to the railway crossing before which we turn right onto a paved forest road that will lead us along the railway line to the village of Vlkanová.
At the entrance to Vlkanová village we pass by the Geronimo water sports camp, where cyclists are always as welcome as the water sportsmen. Then we continue along the village of Vlkanová towards the village of Hronsek (http://www.drevenykostolik.sk/) along the 2nd class asphalt road, which will lead us through the village of Veľká Lúka to the spa town of Sliač.
At the entrance to the spa town of Sliač, according to the cyclo-signpost, we turn off the asphalt road to the paved path, which leads us to the centre of the spa town. There we walk around the bridge over the Hron River and continue along a nice cycling path, on the left bank of the river, to the city of Zvolen.
This 21 km long route runs flat and is also suitable for families with children, recreational and Sunday cyclists. In case of bad weather or fatigue in the city of Zvolen, you can choose to travel back by train. Do not forget to buy a ticket for your bike and use the first and last door in the set, which is marked with a bike pictogram.
