Divadlo pod balkónom (The Theatre under Balcony) acts as an independent puppet theatre, whose performances are intended mainly for children, but also for adults and it is a permanent stage of Divadlo Harry Theater (Harry Teater Theatre). The theatre has in its repertoire also two traditional puppet marionette performances. An original hundred-years-old barrel organ is used for these performances. In addition, the theatre also offers separate performances of barrel organ players with songs and stories. It is known for its “Chodoroadshow” – Walking on Stilts, animations programs for kids, magic shows and creative workshops.
The principal, director, actor, stage director, scenarist, text writer, electrical lighting technicians and technician is Ján Harry Haruštiak , former member of the ensemble and assistant stage manager in the puppet theatre Bábkové divadlo na Rázcestí for many years. As a guest he appears very often in State Opera Banská Bystrica in operettas, in radio or TV series. The soul, who cares about the entire operation of the theatre and theatre manager, is Julka Haruštiaková. The theatre ensemble consists of excellent actors invited for cooperation, who are working also in other Slovak theatres and who are graduates or art schools with many years of professional experiences with theatre, what gives a guarantee of high-quality theatre productions. The Theatre sets great store by aesthetic, visual and musical components and therefore cooperates with outstanding Slovak stage directors, musicians and graphic artists. The creation of some performances was supported by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Banská Bystrica.
Since 15th November 2014 the Theatre under Balcony has been operating in itself renovated new theatre space – at the Rudohorská ulica (street) 37. Since the establishment of the theatre, spectators in different Slovak cities, abroad and at major international festivals could see its performances. One of the most important advantages of theatre performances is the permanent active cooperation with audience. All performances, whether classical or author performances, are interactive. Spectators, both children and adults, have the opportunity to participate in the plot and in this way directly co-create the performance. Of course, this creates a variety of unexpected, funny and comical situations. Each performance is therefore unique and unrepeatable.
